I don’t envy these jurors one bit! Public opinion convicted Casey Anthony but when the burden of proof could not be shown conclusively by the State of Florida prosecutors the public has been striking out at everyone. It wasn’t the State’s fault that they had no real murder weapon, no witnesses to the crime, skeletonized remains, and a lot of circumstantial evidence. The only guilty charge: 4 counts to providing false information to law enforcement. There is only one thing clear in this case a little girl is dead, her grandparents have lost their granddaughter, and we may never know the complete truth in this case!
Now Judge Perry (I really like this guy – he is sharp!) is delaying the release of the names of the jurors as long as he can to protect them from the lynch mob mentality of a few of the public which feel THEY have not had justice served! Probably everyone involved in this case has received some sort of death threats (with perhaps the exception of the prosecutors who seemed to be the media and public darlings). Watch the video! The judge can’t even go across the street from where he works (courthouse) without being accosted! Hopefully, this will die down over time. I applaud him for trying to shield the jurors as long as he can to protect them from the media, the curious, and the imbalanced!
If this trial had been held during the frontier days when there was no real forensic science Casey Anthony would have been sentenced to the Gallows if an angry mob hadn’t taken her there themselves! As we rely on forensic science to “fill in the gaps” where there are no material witnesses, etc. we are bound to see more of this! But as science and technology are advanced new techniques may become available to “fill in the blanks”. Just look at what DNA testing has done to convict some and free others!
